•             EE announced as official technology partner for Glastonbury Festival 2014

•             UK network to provide superfast 4G connectivity on site and create official Glastonbury app

•             EE introduces queue-busting phone charging solution – the EE Festival Power Bar -  to keep festival goers connected

London, Tuesday 15 April 2014: EE will return this year as the official technology and communications partner to Glastonbury Festival 2014, which takes place from Wednesday 25 June to Sunday 29 June at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

The UK’s most advanced digital communications company will deploy a bespoke 4G network on site, offer free phone charging for all and create the official Glastonbury 2014 app to keep revellers connected all weekend.

Glastonbury goers won’t want to miss a moment of this year’s impressive line-up – which will be revealed in full at the beginning of June. For the first time this year,  a new phone charging solution - the EE Festival Power Bar* - will be trialled on site alongside the traditional ‘EE Recharge Tent’, to help keep festival revellers’ phones charged whilst reducing queuing to a minimum.

The EE Festival Power Bar – a portable mobile phone charger – is available to purchase from today until June 9th via the EE online shop and offers users unlimited charge throughout the weekend.  Those who buy a Festival Power Bar prior to the festival will be able to visit the dedicated EE Exchange Cabin on site and swap their official power bar charger, once it runs out of juice, for a fully charged one…as many times as they like during the weekend.

EE will also work with Glastonbury Festival to create the official Glastonbury app for 2014; building on the success of last year with a host of features including performance scheduling tools, an interactive map and social integration.  The app will be available for download in June with more information announced in due course.

Spencer McHugh, Brand Director at EE commented: “Last year we saw a huge increase in photo and video uploads on our network at Glastonbury as people shared their magical festival moments from across the site.  By providing superfast 4G at the Festival alongside the launch of our new charging solution, the EE Festival Power Bar, we will make sure all those at the UK’s best-loved festival can stay connected and share content more easily and quicker than ever before.”

As an official partner, EE will have some of the last remaining tickets for Glastonbury which will be available to win in the lead up to the festival via EE channels. For the latest news and updates go to EE.co.uk/Glastonbury.

NOTES TO EDITORS

*About the EE Festival Power Bar and EE Recharge Tent

New for Glastonbury Festival 2014, EE will be providing festival-goers with an alternative mobile charging solution to the traditional EE Recharge tent, the EE Festival Power Bar.

The EE Festival Power Bar is a powerful portable mini-charger that provides up to five hours of charging time.  It will retail at £20 via EE’s online accessories shop – http://accessories.ee.co.uk/product/festivalpowerbar - prior to the festival and goes on sale from today - Friday April 11th until June 9th.  A limited number will be available on site but Glastonbury-goers wishing to take advantage of the service are advised to purchase early to avoid disappointment.

When the bar runs out of juice on site, users can exchange it for a fully-charged one at the dedicated EE Exchange Cabin for free as many times as they like from Thursday 26th – Sunday 29th June.  The Exchange Cabin will be next to the Recharge Tent, clearly marked on the Glastonbury Festival map which is available via the official Glastonbury 2014 app – free to download on iOS and Android handsets closer to the festival.  More will be announced on the app in due course.

EE Festival Power Bar users will be advised that only the official EE Festival Power Bar purchased via the EE online accessories shop (identified by its aqua colour and EE logo) will be exchanged for a fully charged unit on site – any other type of charger will not be accepted as part of the unlimited charge deal from EE.  Users can keep their reusable Festival Power Bar at the end of the festival but are advised they will most likely return with a different one that they originally purchased due to the nature of the service.  EE cannot guarantee the aesthetic condition of swapped recharged Power Bars, again due to the nature of the service, but any swapped Festival Power Bar will be checked to ensure it is fully charged and in good working condition before being returned to the user.

There will also be one large traditional EE Recharge tent on site this year for those not wanting to use the Festival Power Bar service, ready to cater for thousands of people over the weekend. The tents will offer festival goers, irrespective of which mobile network they are on, a space to relax and recharge their batteries whilst they recharge their mobile devices, also free of charge.  Hundreds of charging points for multiple types of device will be available, including ‘retro’ spaces for those with older handsets. Visitors to the tents will be able to connect their devices to dedicated mobile Wi-Fi hot spots powered by EE’s 4G network meaning all smartphone users can try out EE’s superfast 4G speeds on site – no matter which network they’re on.
