EE brings superfast 4G to 29 more towns and cities in time for Christmas

  • 4G from EE launching today in Bath, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Darlington, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Northampton, Poole, Portsmouth and Redcar
  • 19 more UK towns and cities to be fully covered by Christmas, giving people in 160 places across the UK access to superfast 4GEE mobile internet
  • EE predicts record-breaking 4G sales in run up to Christmas

EE, the UK’s most advanced digital communications company, today announced that 4G is now live in 10 more towns and cities, bringing the total to 141. Masts across the UK are being upgraded every day as 4G demand increases, and a further 19 places will be covered by superfast 4GEE by Christmas.

4G from EE goes live today in Bath, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Darlington, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Northampton, Poole Portsmouth and Redcar. These places will now benefit from superfast internet access on mobiles, tablets and laptops, helping people and businesses to do more online, on the go, whether that’s working or enjoying, social media, music and videos.

By Christmas, customers in Aberdeen, Braintree, Cheltenham, Chester, Dundee, Durham, Exeter, Gloucester, Grimsby, Ipswich, Lincoln, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Peterborough, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Swansea, Swindon and York will also be able to benefit from 4G.

With 4G available from £18.99 per month with a free Samsung Android smartphone, and pay as you go deals from just £10 for 1GB of data and 2,014 free voice minutes for the coming year, EE predicts a record-breaking month of 4G sales in the run up to Christmas.

Olaf Swantee, Chief Executive Officer, EE, said:

“With every new town and city we switch on, the 4G revolution picks up pace. From Bath to Bournemouth, Northampton to Newastle-under-Lyme, today’s towns and cities are the latest in a long line to get 4G from EE. By Christmas, 160 places across the UK will have 4G access, meaning that people and businesses can do more, trade more and connect more. That’s the fastest rollout of 4G in Europe, and with well over one million people already using the service, one of the most successful too. With the competition lagging behind and barely reaching double figures for 4G cities, it means there’s only one real choice for 4G this Christmas.”

The 4GEE Mobile Living Index, which will be released in full soon, will reveal that 4G is set to transform Christmas shopping this year as faster mobile internet speeds allow people to shop for gifts from their mobile devices. 39% of 4GEE customers say they will buy their gifts on their smartphone or tablet this year – up from 15% last year – with fashion, electronics and books the most popular purchases.
