  • EE to also launch new range of in-home hardware designed by Tej Chauhan and made from recyclable plastics – providing the best fibre home broadband with back-up from EE’s award-winning mobile network
  • EE’s latest home broadband hardware to be supported by best-in-class Wi-Fi controls designed to help improve experiences in and around the home
  • The new supercharged home broadband services offering new speeds, design and controls marks the next step by EE as lead consumer brand for the BT Group

EE today embarks on a new chapter in its mission to become the UK’s most personal customer-focused brand, with plans for a new range of supercharged home broadband services – backed-up by EE’s award-winning mobile network. Late this summer, EE plans to launch its fastest broadband to date, Full Fibre 1.6Gbps, as well as commence the roll out a new suite of hardware – including Smart Hub Plus and Smart Hybrid Connect - matched with best-in-class Wi-Fi controls, designed to meet the needs of the busiest connected homes, now and in the future.

The new supercharged home broadband services offering new speeds, hardware and controls have been developed using the experience and expertise of the world-leading BT R&D teams at Adastral Park, and mark the next step by EE, already the UK’s best mobile network – to offer best in-home connectivity as the lead consumer brand for the BT Group.

EE’s Full Fibre 1.6 Gbps service is built on a gigabit+ capable full fibre network which will use a 1.8 Gbps product to deliver over 1.6 Gbps download speeds into customer homes. This will be EE’s fastest service available, ushering in a new era in connectivity for UK consumers. The service will provide households with seamless connectivity and extra capacity for when multiple online devices download, stream, browse, and game at once and at the busiest times of day - with average speeds up to 44 times faster than Superfast Fibre.

To support the launch, EE has also unveiled its most advanced router yet, the new Smart Hub Plus. Supporting EE’s fastest download speeds, Smart Hub Plus pairs with Smart Wi-Fi Plus to connect all corners of a customer’s home, meaning more devices will be able to stream, game and download at the same time, wherever they are in the home.

EE will also roll out Smart Hybrid Connect which works with the latest Smart Hubs to automatically connect to EE’s award-winning mobile network for back up if required. Smart Hybrid Connect also works with Smart Wi-Fi Plus, so whether connected to broadband or the EE network, customers will continue to receive a signal in those hard-to-reach places in the home.

Smart Hub Plus will run on a new firmware platform built by EE, unlocking the ability for it to partner with the very latest new software and hardware partners to ensure EE customers stay ahead of the curve. It will enable EE customers to benefit from unique new features including best in class Wi-Fi controls designed to help improve their experience – allowing them for example to prioritise their bandwidth when working from home or gaming or set new advanced parental controls.

The Smart Hub Plus, Smart Wi-Fi Plus and Hybrid Connect will be joined by the Smart Hub and Smart Wi-Fi – replacing EE’s existing line-up in the coming months. The all-new range will feature a new look and sleek formal design created by consultancy ZAG in collaboration with renowned hardware designer Tej Chauhan. In support of EE’s commitment to greener hardware and reducing the impact its devices have on the environment, all new product outer casings will also be made from up to 95% recycled plastic, with box packaging being both recycled and recyclable.

Marc Allera, CEO at EE said “As we create the UK’s most personal customer-focused brand, we continually look to bring truly innovative products and services to market to help our customers manage their increasingly busy households. Whether it be working from home, gaming, or juggling the increasingly digital elements of everyday life – EE home broadband backed-up by EE’s award-winning mobile network will set the standard for broadband for years to come, offering customers the best experience and putting them in control of their home connectivity.”

Pricing and availability for EE’s new Full Fibre 1.6Gbps service and range of hardware will be announced in due course.
