GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL TECHNOLOGY PARTNER EE REVEALS 2022 FESTIVAL HAS BROKEN DATA RECORDS

  • EE data reveals that sun-soaked Festival goers used over 182 terabytes of data, a 76% increase in data used at Glastonbury 2019
  • 5.6 million performances were added to music fans’ line-ups on the official Glastonbury Festival app from EE
  • The most popular artists in the official Glastonbury Festival app from EE were headliners Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Diana Ross, with over 53,000 fans adding the Supremes legend Pyramid Stage appearance to their festival line up
  • 3.4 million voice calls were made on Worthy Farm over the course of the festival; an increase of 200,000 when compared with the 2019 event

Wednesday 29th  June: Today EE, the official technology partner of Glastonbury Festival, has revealed that over the course of the five-day event, an epic 182 terabytes were used, smashing the 2019 record by 76%.

The whopping 182 terabytes of data used on site at Glastonbury Festival is equivalent to viewing 7.2 billion Instagram posts across the weekend, or 5.4 million downloads of the popular Beatles hit Hey Jude, from Saturday Night’s Pyramid Stage headliner Paul McCartney.

Music fans used the Glastonbury app developed by EE to plan their Festival line ups with over 5.6 million artists added to personal line ups. The app saw 193,000 total downloads, with 39,000 of those downloads made by fans watching the action at home, proving itself to be a Festival essential to those attending and those enjoying the performances from their sofas.

After a weekend of legendary performances that will go down in history, the most popular performance from this year’s Festival took place at the Pyramid stage on Sunday afternoon. 53,000 app users added Diana Ross to their Festival line up, planning to catch the moment The Supremes legend came out to give a momentous Glastonbury performance to crowds of revellers. It seems many revellers were keen to share their experiences with others as data analysis shows 3.4 million calls were made by Festival guests.

Over 11,948 Festival goers used the EE Recharge Tent to give their phones that all-important power boost, ensuring they had battery to capture their festival memories and keep in touch with friends and family. 8,182 made use of the power bank swapping service at the EE Recharge Tent, trading their used power bank each day for a fully charged replacement to keep their phone charged and stay connected.

Pete Jeavons, Marketing Communications Director at EE said: “With so many new and exciting ways for Festival goers to share their Glastonbury experiences with friends and family, it’s no wonder that every year we see the demand for data increasing. This legendary Festival is one of the most exciting places on the planet for music fans, and our data shows that people are as keen as ever to use our technology to make the most of their time at Worthy Farm; it makes us all really proud to see how many people benefitted from the ability to plan their line ups and catch their favourite artists.”
