Official ‘Glastonbury 2015’ app launches from EE: the ultimate digital companion to this year’s festival

  • Glastonbury 2015 app available from today on iOS and Android
  • The must-have digital guide for festival-goers has been redesigned making it even easier to stay connected with friends
  • Live-streamed content from Glastonbury’s broadcast partner, the BBC, available through the app for music fans to catch the latest sets from six main stages on-the-go
  • New Glastonbury app forms part of the technology offering from EE on site, including the biggest ever phone-charging operation and bespoke 4G network

EE, the official communications and technology partner of Glastonbury Festival 2015, has announced the launch of the only official mobile app for this year’s festival, available to download free from today on iOS and Android.

The 2015 Glastonbury Festival app is an evolution of last year’s hugely popular version and even more intuitive. The redesigned app now includes pin sharing capabilities within the map – meaning friends can share their current location or important spots such as their tent or car park site and meet up more easily.

The ‘staying connected to friends’ theme continues with further Facebook integration throughout: users can now click on performances in their in-app schedule and see which of their Facebook friends are planning to see the same artists. The 2015 redesign ensures it is the most advanced, user-friendly Glastonbury app ever.

The integrated BBC live-streaming function is back and allows fans, both on and off site, to stay up to date with the latest performances from the six main stages at the festival. Those at the festival on EE’s superfast network can enjoy an improved streaming experience thanks to EE’s bespoke 4G network infrastructure on site.

Key features:

  • Interactive scheduling tools including the ‘my line-up’ feature, which can be easily shared and viewed by friends via social media
  • Redesigned interactive map featuring extended site coverage, location finding, ‘now and next’ info and customisable pin drops, which can be shared with other friends using the app
  • News section featuring content from the Glastonbury team on site, including real time updates direct from the Festival over the weekend

Spencer McHugh, Brand Director at EE commented: “The official Glastonbury app is the must-have festival accessory and has become just as important as a good pair of wellies!  Last year it was accessed almost 3 million times with a total of nearly nine years’ of combined usage.  And it’s even better this year – we’ve redesigned the app for 2015 offering more advanced connectivity, helping you keep track of friends on site as well as everything that’s going on over the festival weekend.”

NOTES TO EDITORS

The app in detail:

The ‘schedule’ section, in association with the guardian, lists full set times for hundreds of artists performing across the Festival, and is the place for users to create their own personalised ‘My Line-up’ of must see acts over the weekend. Any act can be added to a user’s line-up where they can be viewed, and reminders can be set, ensuring you don’t miss a minute of your favourite artists’ sets. Users who have logged into Facebook within the app, will be able to share ‘My Line-up’ with friends and view what their mates are going to see, as well as write on their walls from within the app.

Biographies and content from selected artists will be available, as well as the ability to listen to 30 second clips of songs from artists, helping users to discover new music and decide on which acts to see. Over the Festival weekend, the BBC’s live streams of artist performances will be easily accessible from their listings in the schedule section.

The ‘map’ is the most extensive and interactive yet, with brand new pin sharing capability for 2015. The map details every place those on site might need; all stages, campsites, toilets and information points. The app will pinpoint your location, and customisable location pins can then be used to mark important places around the site – be that where you parked, pitched your tent or your current location, which can then be shared with other app users. Clicking on any stage within the map will bring up ‘now and next’ info of artists playing on it, and all users, on site or at home, will be able to watch the BBC’s live streams of performances where available.

Use the map to find your way to the EE Recharge Tent and Power Exchange when your phone or EE Power Bar runs out of juiceThe EE Power Bar - a portable mini-charger - provides full charge to any mobile phone.  Once used, it can be exchanged at the dedicated Exchange Cabins throughout the weekend.

In the ‘news’ section’, there will be regular content and news updates in the lead up to the Festival both from EE and Glastonbury and over the weekend. The Festival team will be posting important updates directly into the app – so if the schedule changes or if there is an important announcement, the app will be the place to get the news first. Within the news section, app users can also view tweets from the Festival team and EE.
